Dyslexia tutoring

Dyslexia tutoring students will meet with Catherine or Ellen at least 2 times per week, as studies have showed this to be the most effective. However 3 or 4 session is recommended. Each session will cost $40.

Barton Reading and Spelling, an Orton-Gillingham based program, is the main tool used during our sessions. It provides explicit instruction on the patterns in the English language. We will also use other fluency work including fluency games, stories, ear and eye reading, and review work.

Multisensory learning is key component of our work. We implement this by using big muscle movements: touch, sight, sound and kinesthetic. Studies have shown that using more senses during instruction create stronger pathways in the brain, which leads to better retention and understanding of the material.

Dyslexia tutoring is available for anyone ages six and beyond. Yes this including adults!

While Barton was created for people with Dyslexia, please reach out if you or your child is struggling with reading. A diagnosis is not required and we would be happy to discuss options with you.

Writing Offerings

Individualized Writing Instruction: $40

Together, we will work to design an individualized lesson plan for the student’s needs and meet weekly or more. This can include topics such as grammar, organization, style, and more. Available for both academic and creative writing. In these sessions, we will at do at least ten minutes of reading and text analysis.

Who is this for? This is ideal for students who need general help developing their writing skills in a one-on-one environment. This package is particularly customizable for homeschool students.

Ongoing Homework Help: $35

We will meet during on-going sessions, ideally weekly or more, to go over assignments and work completed.

Who is this for? Students of any age who are struggling with their writing/English homework and would like instruction on grammar, how to interpret and complete an assignment, organization, and other writing skills.

This is a particularly good option if your student is behind after a year or more of schooling during COVID-19. We can work together to make sure they are caught up to grade level expectations.

One-Time Homework Help: $45

In this session, we will look over your assignment to make sure that it adheres to the assignment, is organized logically, points are communicated effectively, and proofread for grammar errors or typos. We request that you submit assignment and the work you have completed at least 24 hours before the session. 

Who is this for? This is for students of any age, but particularly ideal for high school and college students who have a basic grasp on the fundamentals of writing and want to make sure they submit a polished piece.
