Our Approach

We believe in meeting each student where they are at and working alongside them to accomplish their goals. This includes making our sessions as enjoyable as possible. To do this, we work closely with the student and parents/guardian to discuss their needs, strengths and interests.

Educational Philosophy

We believe that each student, no matter the age, comes to us as a fully formed person with their own individual educational needs. As instructors, it is our job to work with the student, parents and/or guardians to develop a style of instruction that works best for that student.

Individualized:  we offer one-on-one sessions to create a highly tailored environment for our students to learn more quickly and effectively. This can look like incorporating movement, sound, games, specific interests, and more into each session.

Consistency:  by working with us regularly and at the same time, we find our students are able to fully understand and retain information.

Mastery:  we focus on mastery over rote learning. This means that students will demonstrate a complete understanding of a topic before we move on. By using this method, students will have far longer retention and ability to apply concepts independently both within and outside of our sessions.

Compassion:  we understand that for many of our students, academic work has been challenging both intellectually and emotionally. Although we are not trained counselors, and our primary goal is to teach writing and reading, we believe that consideration needs to be given for whatever experience the student has had before coming to us, whether that is before they met us or before our session that day.

Fun: we believe the more fun that our students have, the more they will learn!

Values

As a queer owned business, it is our highest priority to make our students and families feel seen, heard, and accepted. Discrimination in any form, whether it be racism, abliesm, homophobia, misogyny, transphobia, etc., will not be tolerated.

As instructors, we understand the deep biases that pervade our culture and educational spaces. We actively work to engage in making our systems, teaching methods, and personal communications more inclusive.

2% of our income is donated monthly to support causes we believe in, with priority given to QTPOC individuals and organizations.

If you feel our policies, communications, etc. do not reflect these values, please contact us at catherine@pajortutoring.com
